Friday is National Flossing Day
There is a national day for pretty much any food or topic you can dream up. For example, an ice cream day, a hugging day, and even a national “lumpy rug day” exist- not sure how that last one came about but it is a nationally recognized day none the less.
If all of these things have days devoted to them, shouldn’t oral health be shown some love? Yes! In fact, there are many days throughout the year to recognize oral health, dentists, oral cancer, ect. One such day is actually this week- Friday is national flossing day!
It all Starts with Appreciation
Take time to think about how amazing your teeth are- it may just make you want to care for them a bit better! What about all the foods you would miss out on enjoying if it hurt to chew or you lacked necessary teeth? Or think about how a nice smile makes you feel, how it draws others to you, and how it can even make us more desirable to hire at a job interview. With so many benefits to having a great smile, we are motivated to care for it! How?
Floss and Brush!
It is a well known fact that dental professionals constantly remind you to floss and brush. Failure to remove build up and bacteria from your teeth and beneath your gums is a great way to develop cavities and diseased gums. However, you may say, “But my gums bleed whenever I floss!” Unfortunately, this is your body’s way of telling you that it is in trouble.
An article from Healthline brings out, “Gums become inflamed and bleed when there’s a buildup of plaque along the gum line. Plaque is a sticky film containing bacteria that covers your teeth and gums. And if you don’t brush or floss enough, the bacteria can spread and cause tooth decay or gum disease.”
So let this be your incentive to begin a better dental hygiene routine that includes daily flossing!
